A police officer who saved somebody from a burning building is retiring.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Carlos Thornton, 57, is retiring after 35 years of service to dedicate himself to writing full-time.
Thornton, who authored two books, titled Operation Screwtape and Fallen, said that he has "a lot of stories to tell."
Thornton Is a Prolific Author
During his 35 years as a LAPD officer, Thornton was assigned to some of the city's most notorious neighborhoods.
He's also been the recipient of 38 medals, and 88 letters of commendation from the department.
Thornton also earned a master's degree in Public Administration and was ordained as a minister.
Upcoming Story Focuses on Thornton's Career
Thornton said his upcoming story will focus on his experiences as a police officer.
He said he wants his writing to inspire and encourage others.
Thornton said he's looking forward to sharing his story with the world.
